After installation: creating a useful handover folder

Keep the details that make a completed installation easier to understand, maintain, and update later.

Once the shades are working, it is tempting to put all the paperwork in a drawer and move on. A small handover folder makes that information easier to find when you need to check a setting, identify a product, or arrange a future visit.

Start with the installed product list

Record the products actually installed, using the identifiers on the supplied documentation. Connect each item to its room or window name. Keep invoices and the installer’s completion notes alongside the list rather than using them as the only record.

Keep everyday instructions separate

Create a short page for normal operation: which control belongs to which room, what the group names mean, and where to find the manufacturer’s instructions. Keep detailed technical documents in the same folder without making them the first thing someone has to read.

The most useful documentation is the information you can find at the moment you need it.

Record outstanding questions

If an item still needs attention after the installation, write down what was agreed and who will follow up. Keeping those notes with the project record helps prevent a small unfinished detail from getting lost among separate messages.

Make the folder easy to find

Choose a location that the people using the home can access. If you keep a digital copy, organize the files by room and keep a backup. Store sensitive account information separately rather than placing passwords in a general project folder.
